Buried in the opening chapters of Revelation are seven letters that most Bible readers rush past on their way to the seals, the beasts, and the end of the world.  That is a mistake.

These seven letters — written by Jesus Himself to seven actual churches in seven actual cities — are the only portion of Revelation addressed directly to the Church in the present age. They are not ancient history. They are a diagnostic: a precise, point-by-point examination of every spiritual condition the Church has ever been in, or ever will be. And if the four-lens framework in this book is correct, they also map the entire two-thousand-year arc of Church history — from the apostolic age to the lukewarm, self-satisfied Church of our own moment — and signal exactly where we are in the sequence.
