Genesis Series Ep. 13 Cain and Abel, and the Line of Cain
In this episode of Genesis: Back to the Beginning on Faith by Reason, I walk through Genesis 4 and the story of Cain and Abel, focusing on why God accepted Abel’s offering but rejected Cain’s, and why Cain’s anger led to murder. I explain that Cain and Abel were likely middle-aged, that Adam and Eve are clearly Cain’s parents, and that Abel’s sheep were kept for ongoing blood sacrifices for sin, which Cain knowingly replaced with produce out of pride. I also explore how Cain may have believed he was the promised “seed” and faced an identity crisis when rejected. I cover Cain’s punishment, the mark of Cain, the land of Nod, Cain’s descendants (including Lamech’s violence), and why I’ll address non-biblical myths about Cain in a bonus episode.
